How to use Lemon oil
FOR YOUR BODY
First of all, the cheery scent of lemon is so familiar that we overlook its wide range of benefits. Secondly, lemon fights exhaustion, reduces inflammation, relieves infections, stimulates the lymph glands, can reduce bloating and increase circulation.
Next, it is great for skincare, especially for oily skin. Following this, as a natural antibacterial, it heals wounds, blemishes, scars and insect bites. Overall, taken internally, it cleanses the body and supports digestion and healthy respiratory function.
Gentle detox
Add 1–2 drops of of Lemon oil into a glass of water in the morning to gently detox your liver.
Skincare
Firstly, it offers anti-ageing and antioxidant properties and its high levels of Vitamin C can soothe insect bites, rosacea and even cold sores. On top of that, diluting 3–5 drops with a carrier oil, and adding this to your daily skin care routine will hydrate and soften your skin.
Warning: Avoid the sun, as lemon oil can cause photosensitivity
Hair highlights
Add a few drops to a spray bottle of water. Spritz over your hair and go out in the sun for bright natural highlights. Also nourishes and softens your hair. Blend
3–5 drops with a carrier oil and apply to your hair and scalp. Leave in as a treatment for up to 30 minutes before washing out.
Heartburn
Remedy heartburn by making a calming drink. Add 2–3 drops to a small glass of water.
Allergies and asthma
Inhaling the scent clears nasal passages and sinuses, and steadies your breath. For allergies, combine:
3 drops Lemon oil
2 drops Lavender oil
3 drops Peppermint oil
10ml carrier oil (olive, jojoba)
Massage this blend on the bottoms of your feet, behind the ears and neck.
FOR YOUR MIND
If you’re feeling blue, the cheery scent will swiftly boost your mood. The vapour from Lemon oil can balance levels of dopamine and serotonin, easing stress and anxiety. It has also been shown to improve attention and alertness and relieve mental fatigue. Use 3–5 drops in a diffuser at work or school to increase focus and and motivation. You can also use it with your pets if they are anxious.

FOR YOUR DAILY LIFE
All-purpose cleaner
For a sparkling clean and zesty fresh-smelling house, add a few drops to any cleaning product. Lemon oil’s antimicrobial agents make it perfect for cleaning almost everything in your house. You can use Lemon oil to clean all surfaces, polish tarnished silver and wooden furniture, and remove soap scum in the shower.
To make your own household cleaner, add 5 drops of Lemon oil to a blend of water and vinegar.
Flavour booster
Adding a few drops lemon-flavoured dishes gives them an extra zing. Try this with lemon frosting, lemon meringue pie, lemon cakes or squares, lemon cookies, and don’t forget to add it to lemonade!
Homemade lemonade
For thirst-quenching lemonade, mix:
- 1 drops Lemon oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 cups water
Blend or mix together. Adjust proportions to suit your taste. You can also add a drop to iced tea.
Organic steriliser
In a spray bottle, add 2–3 drops of Lemon oil to water and use it on countertops to sterilise them.
Stain remover
Use 1–2 drops of Lemon oil alone or with a carrier oil to remove gum, sticky adhesives and crayon marks from most surfaces or clothes.
Fruit freshness
To clean fruit and increase its shelf life, fill a bowl with cool water and 2–3 drops of Lemon oil. Place fruit into the water and soak for a few minutes.

What does Lemon oil blend with?

Cautions
Cold pressed citrus oils may cause skin irritation, so test on a small patch of skin on your arm.
Lemon oil can cause photosensitivity, so you should avoid direct sunlight up to 12 hours after using lemon oil on your skin.
Dilute with a carrier oil (olive, almond, jojoba) before using it on your face.
Keep out of reach of children
If sensitivity occurs, discontinue use.
Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive areas of the body.
