How to use Lemongrass oil
FOR YOUR BODY
First of all, you can use as an overall wellness tonic. Secondly, its smell is instantly soothing and it promotes healthy digestion, purifies and tones the skin and calms travel sickness. Finally, the high level of antimicrobial citral in Lemongrass oil also helps it fight fever and banish body odour.
Indigestion
Firstly, mix 1–2 drops with a small amount of a carrier oil (coconut or almond oil). Next, gently rub into the stomach area to soothe cramps and discomfort.
Fever and headache
To start, activate the citral by mixing 5–7 drops with a small amount of coconut oil. Then, massage into the back of your neck, chest, temples and soles of the feet.
Body aches
After a tough workout, create a ache-relieving body scrub. Mix:
- 10 drops Lemongrass oil
- ½–1cup of Epsom salts
- Enough coconut oil to saturate the Epsom salts
In the shower, massage the blend all over your body, including your face. Rinse off.
Travel sickness
For nausea during a bumpy car ride or plane journey, blend:
- 3 drops
- 2 drops Peppermint oil
- 3 drops Lemon oil
- 5ml coconut oil
Place on your palms and inhale deeply for at least 30 seconds.
Plantar Fasciitis pain
Firstly, if you spend a lot of time on your feet, or have flat or high-arched feet, you may suffer from pain and swelling under your heels. Secondly, lblended with other essential oils can provide respite. Mix:
- 30 drops
- 50 drops Peppermint oil
- 30 drops Lavender oil
- 20 drops Rosemary oil
- 10 drops Frankincense oil
- 30ml almond or olive oil
Massage the affected area daily.
Gastric Ulcers
Lemongrass has traditionally been used across Asia to ease stomach distress. To soothe gastric ulcers and nausea you can add a few drops of Lemongrass oil to your soup, or infuse it with water and add to tea.
Body odour
Clean and astringent, it s ideal as a deodorant. Fill a 30ml spray bottle with water and add:
- 9 drops
- 10 drops Tea Tree oil
Spray on your underarms.
Skincare
initially, being antibacterial and anti-fungal, Next, it is perfect for cleaning out your pores and cleansing and toning the skin. Then, cleanse your skin, then add 5–10 drops of Lemongrass oil to a bowl of steaming hot water. Following this, drape a towel over your head and place your head over the bowl. Itchy scalp
In the shower, massage a few drops of Lemongrass oil into your scalp for 2 minutes and then rinse. Lemongrass oil will soothe your scalp and kill bacteria, leaving your hair shiny and fragrant.
Insect repellent
Lemongrass oil contains high quantities of geranial and neral— known in combination as “citral”, which naturally deters insects. To make your own repellent, mix:
- 70 drops Lemongrass oil
- 50 drops Lemon eucalyptus oil
- 30 drops Peppermint oil
- 25 drops Lavender oil
- 20ml alcohol or witch hazel
- 30ml water
Shake well and spray on exposed areas to ward off insects.
You can also mix about 5 drops of Lemongrass oil with water to create a spray you can use on your pet’s coat.

With it bright, fresh scent, you can use Lemongrass oil to promote a sense of joy and release stressful thoughts. It boosts GABA, a neurotransmitter that calms anxiety and it also stimulates mental activity by increasing blood flow to the brain.
Use it in a diffuser to support concentration and give you an energy and confidence boost. You can also make a mindfulness blend of:
- 3 drops
- 2 drops Lavender oil
- 4 drops Cedarwood oil
- 2 drops Tea Tree oil
- 3 drops Geranium oil
Use this in a diffuser or put a few drops on a tissue or cloth inhale and exhale slowly at least 5 times.
