12 ways to use Oregano oil
FOR YOUR BODY
First of all, when you need a power-packed healing solution, it contains up to
70 percent carvacrol, a compound that prevents bacteria from growing. Following this, if you’re congested, it can help you breathe more easily and unblock sinuses. To sum up, it will settle an upset stomach and ease digestion; it works wonders on fungal infections and can alleviate allergies.
Immunity
First of all, mix 3 drops with 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil (jojoba, almond) and add it to a glass of water, milk or juice. Next, drink every day to strengthen your immune system.
Wounds
To speed up healing and prevent infection, dilute Oregano oil with a carrier oil and apply to the wound. The carvacrol iinhibits the growth of bacteria by damaging the bacteria cell membranes, making it a potent antiseptic.
Fungus and athlete’s foot
Initially, if your skin is itchy or discoloured around the armpit area, groin, toes or nails, it could be fungus, which can grow in the body’s moist, dark places. After this, dilute 4 drops of Oregano oil with 1 teaspoon of olive oil and apply to your skin and nails.
Parasites and worms
It is a safe way to treat worms or parasites in the gut. Mix:
- 2–3 drops
- 1 teaspoon carrier oil
To start out, add to ginger tea or lemonade and drink 3–4 times a day. After this, for children, you can make the mixture taste sweeter by adding some raw honey.
Sinus, cold and allergies
First off, with its powerful antiseptic and antibacterial properties, it is a great friend when you’re down with a cold. Secondly, to clear your nasal passages and soothe a sore throat, add a few drops to a bowl of very hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam for about 5 minutes. Subsequently, you can also add a few drops to a herbal tea or make a chest rub by mixing equal amounts of coconut oil and Oregano oil.
Cold sores
Firstly, to ease the itch and pain of a cold sore, dilute a few drops with a carrier oil (olive, jojoba, coconut). Next, apply to the affected area.
FOR YOUR MIND
It is both stimulating and refreshing.
Its sharp, warm aroma creates feelings of safety and comfort. Research has shown that it can regulate mood, motivation and wellbeing by increasing the availability of three neurotransmitters — serotonin, noradrenalin and dopamine.
It also helps to calm anxiety and restlessness at bedtime. Mix 2–3 drops with a teaspoon of carrier oil and massage into the soles of your feet before you go to bed.
